Dan McElwee, Partner and Chief Operating Officer, is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™. Consistently providing clients high-quality, objective advice and unparalleled service is Dan’s primary mission.
Business owners, executives with concentrated stock holdings, individuals with defined income needs, or families with multigenerational or legacy investment strategies often work with Dan to find customized solutions to complex situations. In addition to advising individuals and families, Dan acts as the lead advisor for many of VWM’s relationships with business and institutional clients including corporate retirement plans (401(k), 403(b), defined benefit, etc.), reserve accounts, and endowments.
Dan actively reviews, manages, and advises the firm’s clients on a wide range of financial topics. He enjoys finding ways to distill the complexities of the financial world into understandable concepts. Dan has given numerous seminars and interviews on topics including retirement income strategies, financial fitness for business owners, alternative investments, and analysis of current economic trends. He authors the firm’s weekly economic newsletter, “The Profit Margin,” and has been quoted in publications including Investor’s Business Daily, Barron’s Next, The New York Times, USA Today, MarketWatch, Morningstar, Fox Business, Yahoo! Finance, The Street, Financial Advisor, among others.
He is a graduate of The College of New Jersey (cum laude) and earned his MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. At UNC, Dan completed concentrations in investment management, corporate finance, and global marketing. He is a graduate of New York University’s Financial Planning Certificate Program and holds multiple securities registrations as well as Life, Health, and Long-Term Care insurance licenses in many states.
Dan is an active member of the community. He is a member of national and local chapters of the Financial Planning Association. Dan has served on various nonprofit boards over the course of his professional career, taking on leadership roles and including serving past president of the Point Pleasant Beach Public Education Foundation. Together with his wife Stephanie, he is bringing new life to their 1700’s Bucks County farmhouse.
