Dan McElwee, Executive Vice President, is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™. Providing clients with high-quality, objective advice is Dan’s primary mission. He oversees client portfolios tailored to specific, client-defined goals. Business owners, executives with concentrated stock holdings, individuals with defined income needs, or families with multigenerational investment strategies often fall under Dan’s oversight. In addition to advising individuals and families, he oversees many of VWM’s relationships with business and institutional clients including corporate retirement plans (401(k), 403(b), defined benefit, etc.), reserve accounts, and endowments.
Dan actively reviews, manages, and advises the firm’s clients on a wide range of financial topics. He has given numerous seminars on topics including retirement income strategies, financial fitness for business owners, alternative investments, and analysis of current economic trends. Dan authors the firm’s weekly economic newsletter, The Profit Margin, and has been quoted in publications including Investor's Business Daily, Barron's Next, The New York Times, USA Today, MarketWatch.com, Morningstar, FoxBusiness.com, Yahoo! Finance, The Street, and Financial Advisor among others. He was recently featured as a young, local business leader to watch in NJ Biz and MidJersey Business Magazine.
He is a graduate of The College of New Jersey and earned an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. At UNC, Dan completed concentrations in investment management, corporate finance, and global marketing. He is a graduate of New York University’s Financial Planning Certificate Program, and holds the Series 7 and 66 registrations as well as Life, Health, and Long-Term Care insurance licenses in multiple states.
Dan is an active member of the community. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association and the Mercer County Estate Planning Council. Dan is past co-chair of the MidJersey Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professional Connective, past-President of the Point Pleasant Beach Public Education Foundation, Treasurer of MorDance, and is involved in various professional organizations. Dan has had two books published and is an avid tennis player, golfer, and amateur photographer.
